Gagra Landmarks - Tsandripsh Basilica

Several kilometres from Gagra on the Black Sea highway there is a resort settlement called Tsandripsh. It is located on the seacoast in the mouth of a small mountain river. It has two names – Tsandripsh and Khashupse. In the settlement centre there are the ruins of the 6 th - 8 th –century temple – so-called Tsandripsh basilica. It stands at the very edge of the sea coast in acacia thickets. It is one of the brightest early Christianity monuments of Abkhazia. The temple is laid from roughly cut stone. The central jut of the building covered by the arch, the southern and western walls still can be seen there.
