Gudauta Landmarks - Ailaga-Abyku

Near Bombora settlement of Gudautsky area there is a medieval monument – one-room Ailaga-Abyku temple. It stands on a high rock, its walls have survived almost in their original height, its jetty altar part has the form of regular pentahedron. The survived wall fragments still have the traces of frescos. The image of the cross is cut above the doorway. From the west the temple is adjoined by small structures' foundations. Near the temple there is a big stone platform. A small commemoration temple, whose remains are still can be seen, used to stand on it. The thickness of the platform, according to archeologists, contains hidden ancient crypts. Ailaga-Abyku temple was presumably destroyed by the earthquake which shook Bombor on July 28th, 1833.
