Romanovs Palace in Likani to become a museum

Romanovs PalaceRomanovs Palace in Likani will oversee restoration and reconstruction works and become a museum, reports the information agency News-Georgia. The Moorish style villa was built in 1895 by a well-known architect Leon Benois as a residence of Grand Duke Nikolay Mikhailovich on the banks of Kura River, close to Borjomi, famous for its resorts and healing waters.

It is interesting that the first hydroelectric station in the Russian Empire was built for electrification of the Romanovs Palace.

During the Soviet period, the palace was nationalized and turned into a beloved place for rest of the first figures of state including Stalin. In the years of independence, the palace was turned into a summer residence of the President.

It is reported that the restoration of the palace will take up to three years to complete. During the period it will be closed for public.

Government authorities are sure that Romanovs Palace will be an attractive sight for tourists as an object of cultural legacy.
