Lower Eshera is a village situated a few kilometers from Sukhum on the right bank of the Gumista river. There you can see the ancient Esher settlement (on the south-eastern ridge of Vereshchagin Hill) with foundations and pedimental parts. Originally it was an agricultural settlement in the mid-6 th century surrounded by mighty walls with tetragonal towers. On the elevated part of the ancient settlement were found powerful foundations and plinth of a huge rectangular building with limestone blocks, eaves remains, a capital and other fragments testifying about the existence of an antique temple on the site of this ancient settlement. Below on the hill slopes are dwelling and household structures. Their walls used to be covered with plaster bearing the traces of paintings.
