The farm is located on picturesque slopes of Mount Trapeze on the territory of the former summer residence Ostroumov, the famous Rusian scientist. It was founded in 1927. Today it is The Research Institute of Experimental Pathology and Therapy of Abkhzaian Academy of Sciences. During Soviet times the farm earned its world popularity and remains popular now. During the Georgian-Abkhazian war the farm suffered heavily and the part of the monkeys died. But in 1993 it was reopened. Now the number of monkeys is the same as before the war, with about 300 species of 10 breeds from Asia, Africa and South America. Besides, there is a Museum of Primates.
