Eshera is a big settlement just a few kilometers from Sukhum in the direction of New Athos. A group of the Bronze Age epoch tombs, dolmens, has survived there. Every dolmen consists of two side slabs, front and rear ones as well as a roof. Outwardly it resembles a big stone trapeze. Skull and bones were found inside Esher dolmens.
The north-eastern suburb of Upper Eshera is known for the ancient ruins of Uaz-abaa stronghold built in the early Middle Ages. The two surviving of up to 18 m testify to the former structure of the stronghold. The 650 sq m yard is forest - grown . To the north of the fortress there are some foundations of an ancient settlement. The numerous fragments of medieval (9 th – 10 th centuries) brown ware can be found on the slopes. |
