Kazakhstan and Almaty
From January through May 2005, the volume of construction works/services in Kazakhstan was 171.7 billion tenge, which is 1.3 times more than in the same period of 2004. During this period, 8,794 buildings were built in the country with the total area of 1,951,400 sq. m, including 7,167 residential houses with an area of 1,609,500 sq. m.
From January through April 2005, Kazakhstan's foreign trade turnover reached US $13,390,500,000, which is by 46.5% more than in the same period of 2004, including export – US $8,325,200,000 (a 47.8% growth), and import – US $5,650,300,000 (a 44.5% growth).
During 1999-2004, the aggregate GDP growth was about 55%, which made Kazakhstan one of the world's leaders in economic development rates. The UN Economic Commission for Europe anticipates the 8% growth of Kazakhstan's economy in 2005 and 2006, after the last year's GDP growth by 9.4 %.
Almaty is a financial, business, scientific, educational, cultural, and tourist centre of Kazakhstan. Decree No. 1019 of 10 February 2003 by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan adopted the Almaty City Development Programme for 2003-2010, which aims at building a new look of the city to comply with its special status. The Programme implementation will be funded from the national and local budgets.

The exhibition is annually supported by the Committee for Construction and Housing Utilities of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Almaty City Akimat.
The Housing Programme
Kazakhstan has adopted the State Programme on Housing Construction for 2005-2007, which aims to build and commission more than 12 million sq. m of housing. 150 billion tenge is assigned for implementation of this Programme.
During the first half-year of 2005, 2,084 apartments were commissioned in Almaty, with a total area of 257,000 sq. m, which is by 33.1% more than in the same period of 2004.
The largest share in the nationwide amount of commissioned housing belongs to Astana (17.2%) and Almaty (15%), as well as Southern Kazakhstan (14.3%), Almaty (10.8%) and Atyrau (10.1%) oblasts.
