Astana is continuing preliminaries for arrangement of the worlds’ exhibition EXPO-2017. With due account for the new milestones set by the subject of the up-coming event (“Future Energy”), the project of Concept of Innovation Activity Development up to the year 2020 is being modified. In connection with the theme - alternative energy sources, the commissioning of the Kazakhstan’s first commercial-scale solar power station held in January 2013 in Korday district became extremely vital.
The EXPO-2017 arrangement will cost 2.3 billion USD to Kazakhstan. An exhibition hall, ecological and ethnic villages, hotel complexes and rest houses, servicing points and shopping centers are planned to be built in the territory of Astana and its outskirts. Furthermore the building project for “EXPO-city” to include construction of housing estates is now under development. In the course of perfection and improvement of the Astana transportation infrastructure by the year 2017, the launching of the light-rail tramline with a throughput up to 50 trams is planned.
For the EXPO-2017, Baikonur city, the Kazakhstan’s space harbor is also being under preparation. The investment forum which took place in Kyzyl-Orda region in current March, submitted a project for the development of the special economic zone “Baikonur- Cosmic Silk Road”. It provides for construction of a valley of alternative energy sources, center for innovation technologies, industrial zone, aqua-park, planetarium and other unique facilities.
