The forthcoming “EXPO-2017” theme “Future Energy” has determined a preparatory strategy for Astana in holding of the International Exhibition. Thus, on 3 May 2013 a Maslikhat regular session made decision for Astana to join the European Union’s initiative the “Covenant of Mayors”, - reports News portal bnews.kz. The “Covenant of Mayors” is supported by the cities, aiming to decrease energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas discharge to the atmosphere. The participation in this initiative will help Astana to adopt a leading European countries’ practice in the field of energy saving and renewable energy sources.
Previously portal bnews.kz, with reference to JSC “Samruk-Energo” press service, reported on a planned construction of the first Kazakhstan 45-mW wind-power station (WPS). The WPS will be built in Akmola region, in the Ereynentau site, to supply the "EXPO-2017" facilities with energy. The WPS operation is expected to generate energy in the volume exceeding 172 million kW per annum that will enable to save more than 60,000t of coal. The project implementation will be a part of the government strategy “Kazakhstan-2050”, aimed to satisfy a half of the country’s cumulative power consumption with alternative and renewable energy sources.
As a reminder, the International Specialized Exhibition “EXPO-2017” dedicated to the development of alternative electric-power industry will be taking place from 10 June to 27 September in Astana. About 100 countries and10 major international companies are expected to take part in it.
