Among dozens of small and large gorges of Kyrgyzstan the Kegety gorge is considered to be one of the most beautiful. It is situated 90 km from Bishkek in the northern side of the Kyrgyz range. The gorge bottom is occupied with a valley and a river of the same name.
Meadows as well as numerous alpine woods are growing along the gorge slopes. Among the numerous plants, there are rare and unique medicinal herbs. In addition a large number of various forest berries such as the strawberry, stone bramble, blackberry are growing there.
The Kegety gorge is famous for its waterfall; the road to it does not take you much time, because it is located near the fall, that is why the gorge is a place frequently visited by tourists. The fall height is about 20m. The tourists are mostly travelling in the gorge on horseback, which add more fascination to the trip.
Travelling along the gorge you can find yourself in the adjacent Kel-Tor gorge where a miraculous “dead sea” Kel-Tor is located. Not far from it there is a summer pasture (jayloo) – Bel-Saz. In addition to it there is a medieval monument of architecture – the Burana Tower (XI-XII centuries).
The territory of the gorge is inhabited with dozens various mammal species, among which there are dozens of rare and unique animals. Different species of birds, among which are predators such as the falcons, golden eagles, gerfalcons etc. live also there.
