In the beginning of June of this year, the renewed airport “Issyk-Kul” was opened in the village of Tamchy. As the result of the first stage of reconstruction works, there are fortified runway with additional 3km and 800m; skirtings and flight operation taxiway and well equiped terminal apron. Now the airport can received up to 9 aircrafts with the weight of up to 150 tonnes including modern Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.

Airport in Tamchy is functioning only during the daytime. In the nearest future, it is planned to attract investments in order to develop the terminal and reconstruct the technical part; build the lighting of the runway and signaling system to be able to receive planes in the night time, and so that planes could land on autopilot.

The renewal of the airport “Issyk-Kul” in Tamchy increased its attractiveness for air-carriers. So, during the summer season, there were five airline companies that showed interest to bring tourists from Russian and Kazakhstan to the airport of Tamchy. The airport plans to launch regular and charter flights in directions of Bishkek-Tamchy, Osh-Tamchy, Almaty-Tamchy, Moscow-Tamchy.

The price of the flight from the Kyrgyz capital to Tamchy is estimated to be 2800 soms, reports the airport “Manas”. Thus, for example, if this is Boeing 737-200, then the flight from Bishkek to Tamchy will be from 2000 to 2800 soms, from Osh around 2,500-3,500 soms, from Almaty – 3,000-4,000 soms, because that is an international flight. Air carriers have not yet provided their estimations yet.

Note

The airport in Tamchy was built in 2003 on the northern shore of the Lake Issyk-Kul on the Soviet time military airfield. The length of the runway was 2,6km. Aircrafts of smaller class such as Yak-40, Yak-42 and AN-24 were received there.
