Irkutsk regional museum of local history is situated in a picturesque old building, which itself is an antiquity monument. That museum, one of the oldest in Russia, was founded in December 1782. The museum collection consists of 350 thousand museum pieces, 250 thousands items are rarities. The exposition is devoted to the life in Siberia, from the prehistoric times. There are the unique herbariums, stuffed animals and birds of Siberia; old manuscripts and reports of geographical and geological expeditions; clothes exposition of all epochs, embroidery, unique expositions from China, Tibet, Mongolia. The collections of Irkutsk museum were presented more than once at the exhibitions in Russia and abroad. The new exhibitions and expositions of the museum are attended by 300 thousand people every year.
