Russian Politics - Political System of Russia
The history of the Russian state has seen a number of political systems. Russia has come a long way from monarchy, socialism and communism to democracy and capitalism.
Now there are the foundations of constitutional order, which define Russia as a democratic federal state. Democratic state means that the bearer of sovereignty and the sole source of power in Russia belong to the people who exercise their power directly (through referendums and free elections) as well as through public authorities and local governments.
