Circum-Baikal Railway Tour, Request
Note: Due to the limited schedule of the Circum-Baikal train the tour is only available on WD, TH, ST and SN from 16/05/2011 until 30/09/2011, and only on ST and SN from 1/10/2010 until 15/05/2011. Please, make sure the date of the tour is right.
On WD and ST
8.00 – the Circum-Baikal train departs from the Irkutsk railway station.
10.00 – arrival at the Sludyanka village. That’s where the programme starts. The train will make stops at historically important villages on the way, which gives you a chance to walk around and take beautiful pictures of the monuments of engineering, architecture and nature. The guide will take you through the longest tunnel on the railway; will show you the water pump towers that used to pump water for the steam train.
19.30 – arrival at Port Baikal. You’ll get on the ferry to cross Lake Baikal where the Angara River flows out (In winter the crossing is done by hovercraft on the ice of Lake Baikal). On the other side, in Listvyanka, the buses will be waiting for you. They will take you back to Irkutsk. The bus goes through the central market and back to the railway station.
On TH and SN
8.00 – the bus to Listvyanka departs from Irkutsk Drama Theater.
9.30 – the ferry will take you to Port Baikal (In winter the crossing is done by hovercraft on the ice of Lake Baikal). There you can walk around a little or visit the museum of Circum-Baikal Railway.
11.00 – the train will depart from Port Baikal when the second group arrives there. The train will make stops at historically important villages on the way, which gives you a chance to walk around and take beautiful pictures of the monuments of engineering, architecture and nature. The guide will take you through the longest tunnel on the railway; will show you the water pump towers that used to pump water for the steam train.
22.00 – arrival at the Irkutsk railway station.
