Monument to Arkadag in Ashgabat

On 25 May 2015 in Ashgabat an official opening of the statue to the acting President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov was held to the honor of City Day.

The height of the monument is 21 meters, out of which 15 meters is marble pedestal. The monument is done from bronze and covered in 24-carate gold leaf. The head of the country is depicted in traditional Turkmen clothing with hand raised high on an Akhaltek horse. The part of the sculpture is a dove that symbolizes an aspiration for peace, writes the tengrinews agency.

The author of the monument is Saragt Babaev, National Artist of Turkmenistan. Official name of the monument is “Arkadag binasy”, that is translated from Turkmen as “Monument of the Patron”.

This is the first monument to Berdymukhamedov who had been governing the country since 2006.
