New Internaional Airport opened in AshgabatA new international airport has been launched in the capital of Turkmenistan; over 2 bln USD was invested in the construction, reports the Information Agency Ria News. The airport is equipped with three terminals: passenger, cargo and VIP; it is equipped to receive planes of any type/capacity and provides international standards of service. Capacity of the new airport in Ashgabat is around 2000 passengers an hour.

The length of two runways is 3800 meters. The general square of the airport equals 1200 hectares. It was a Turkish company "Plimex" who dealt with the construction of the airport. It also accomplished such projetcs in Turkmenistan as Olympic town, Neutrality Arch, Ashgabat TV tower, International airport in Turkmenbashi (former Krasnovodsk).

At the opening ceremony, the new Ashgabat airport was awarded a certificate from the Guinness World Records for the biggest architectural image of carpet gel (pattern) on the roof of the passenger terminal building. The pattern is 705 square meters.
