Last Saturday the Fergana Hippodrome hosted a festive show, dedicated to Navruz, one of the most ancient and cherished holidays in Uzbekistan . The event was organised by the local municipality (khokimiyat), Ulak (Kupkari) Federation and Ferghana branch of Kamolot that prepared an interesting and extensive program of performances and competitions. Spectacular show of folk traditions, folk dance and song performances, shows of darbozes and palvons and equestrian events for a few hours captivated the audience, consisting of local residents and visitors from other regions of Uzbekistan who filled all levels of the hippodrome.

Local youngsters air-launched whimsical kites, made under the supervision of skilled instructors. Colored ellipses, diamonds and trapezoids of brown paper, a thin cellophane, adorned with ribbons and pictures, brighter rocket airplane, a hawk flying like a real bird, cute red hearts with carefully carved sparkling inscriptions of colored paper “Assalom, Navruz!”, “Uzbekistan – mening Vatanim” soared into the sky. Handmade cord models of aircraft demonstrated a breathtaking fight, circling high in the sky like a flock of nimble swifts.

Children and youth clubs of martial arts, gymnastics performed exhausted tricks and stunts during the rhythmic dance. Kurashists also performed the show by fighting with each other and then with someone brave from the audience.

Equestrian of Fergana riders who showed their skills in jumping and racing was one of the most striking episodes of the performance. The folk horse game - kiz Kuwari (catch the girl), in which the “groom” was supposed to catch the “bride” and at full gallop to seize the reins of her horse, was also as much as interesting.

The city hashar active participants were awarded during the event, they were granted with commemorative diplomas and gifts. Festive meal in the open air was also organised at the territory of the hippodrome. After a festive presentation everyone could taste the Ferghana pilav cooked in huge pots, crunchy patty-cakes, fried in boiling oil, and try a variety of sweets with nosey tea.
