Florence and Samarkand became sister cities

SamarkandOn 26 January 2013 two famous tourist cities signed a friendship and working agreement in Samarkand. 

Florence is the Italian museum city on the Arno River, the medieval capital of the dukes of Medici and Italian Kingdom. Samarkand is a Pearl of the East, glorified through centuries, a cultural, economic and scientific capital of the immense Tamerlane Empire. Both of the cities attract annually thousands of tourists from all over the world.

Florence’s governor Andrea Barducci said that “relation between Florence and Samarkand is an ideal relation between the West and East. Both Florence and Samarkand are the centers of the world culture, art and science. These two cities were located at the intersection of different cultures, united the peoples and helped them to integrate”, reports 12news.uz

Florence is the 11th Samarkand’s sister city. Other Samarkand’s sister cities are: Belgian Liege, French Lion, Pakistani Lahore, Bulgarian Plovdiv, Brazilian Rio-de-Janeiro, Indonesian Banda-Aceh, Ukrainian Lvov, German Bremen, Russian Krasnoyarsk and Samara.
