Savitsky MuseumA unique collection of the Russian avant-garde from the Savitsky Museum and the section representing the exhibits of the Museum of Applied Art of Uzbekistan can be seen in the Qatar Orientalist Museum in 2015. This was decided at the meeting of Directors of the Museums - Marinika Babanazarova and Nargiza Talipova with Mrs. Mayassa Al Thani, the Qatar ruler’s daughter.

The Savitsky Museum in Nukus numbers about 90,000 exhibits of applied art of the Central Asian peoples. Furthermore, the Museum’s treasuries have been keeping the world’s second collection of Russian avant-garde pictures of the beginning of the XX century more than half a century, which fact makes this museum out and outer.

The Guardian, the English newspaper, called the Savitsky Museum as “one of the world’s most beautiful museums”. The same evaluation “one of the best museums in the world” it received from Albert Gor and Jacques Chirak. However, the museum gained its wide notoriety relatively not long ago, upon the theatrical release of the “Desert of Forbidden Art” documentary, filmed by American documentalists.

The Museum of Applied Art of Uzbekistan keeps over 7,000 samples of Uzbek applied art: old-time hand-made embroidery, skull-caps, bijouterie, carpets and other samples of pieces of handicraft art from the beginning of the ХIХ century till present days.

The visitors will be able to see selected exhibits of two leading Uzbek museums as part of the exposition to be held in Qatar.
