Duchess Kulikovskaya-Romanova has paid visit to Tashkent

Grand Duchess Olga Kulikovskaya-Romanova visited Tashkent on 13 June 2013, - reports Tashkent and Uzbekistan diocese Press Service. The visit by a Russian royal family descendant was timed to the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.

The Duchess, who came on invitation of Vikentiy, Metropolitan of Tashkent and Uzbekistan, dedicated her visit to a tour of the country, historical places, culture and everyday life of the Uzbek people. During her stay in Uzbekistan she took part in divine services, received the members of the Rossotrudnichestvo representatives and visited Samarkand and Bukhara.

Duchess Olga Kulikovskaya-Romanova is the wife of His Highness Kulikovsky-Romanov, Tikhon Nikolaevich , a grandson of Emperor Alexander III and a nephew of tsar Nikolay II.

The Romanov dynasty has an important significance in Uzbekistan’s contemporary history. The cousin of tsar Nikolay II, Grand Duke Romanov, Nikolay Konstantinovich (1850-1917), who lived in Tashkent in1881, was best remembered by the descendants as Duke-Constructor. He greatly influenced on the development of Tashkent, built palaces and canals, developed industry, culture and architecture. The center of Tashkent, near Mustakillik Square, is still occupied by the former residence of Grand Duke – Romanov's Residence, built under the project of the famous architects V.S. Heinzelmann and A.L. Benoit.
