The Pearls of the Commonwealth List was prepared and adopted by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly because 2014 was announced Year of Tourism. The list was prepared to inform the world community on the main attractions of the CIS countries and bring out their full tourist potential. The Assembly List also includes Baku Boulevard (Azerbaijan), Khor Virap (Armenia), Brest Fortress (Belarus), Round Square in Astana (Kazakhstan), Lake Issyk-Kul (Kyrgyzstan) and other attractions.

The Gur-Emir is a mausoleum, where Timur, his sons and grandsons were buried. Gur Emir, one of the most sentinel architectural ensembles of the medieval East, set the pattern for the famous mausoleum of Humayun in Delhi and the Taj Mahal in Agra.
