Wine tours as one of additional tourism directions in Uzbekistan were first presented as part of the Tourism Exhibition “World of Leisure 2014”. Thus, the Exhibition visitors and participants had the opportunity to have an acquaintance trip to the Uzbek chateau “Khamkor”. During the tour, they were shown vineyards and farm production plants, and treated with a delicious lunch with wine tasting.
The Uzbek chateau “Khamkor” is located in Namdanak village, Parkent region, about one hour's drive from Tashkent. This is one of the most successful vineries of Uzbekistan, which from 1992, under the strict supervision of one of the best Uzbek technologists grows wine grapes “Cabernet Sauvignon”, “Pinot Noir”, “Merlot”, “Chardonnay”, “Riesling” and others.
The wineyard area is about 250 ha. The winery produces 12 red and white bins by French technology. It has a cellar to store about 20,000 liters of wine in huge wooden barrels. The winery also has its own mini-bottling line for finished wine.
The Uzbek wines from “Khamkor” are awarded the highest category of “Grand Cru” of French winemakers and exported to various countries, including France. They can also be seen in the retail networks of “Legion”, “Winemaker”. Such wines of the chateau “Khamkor” as “Monte Cristo”, “Saint Marc”, “Josephine”, “Notre Dame” and “Louvre” are offered in the best hotels and restaurants of the Uzbek capital. Also from September 2013 “Khamkor” wines replaced French ones on Uzbekistan Airways flights. In the near future they will also appear on board of “Transaero”, “Aeroflot” and “Korean Air”.
The show-trip organizers plan to enrich the wine tour to “Khamkor” with a horseback riding and photo session in traditional national costumes. Wine tours can be one of the options of gastronomic tourism in Uzbekistan and a good addition to the classic cultural tours to Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva.
