Samarkand is among the Top 50 Cities to See in Your Lifetime list, compiled by the well-known American online media Huffington Post in conjunction with the Travel Community minube.net, - reports UzDaily news agency.
Samarkand became the only city in the CIS entered into this list along with such cities as Sydney, London, Tokyo, Budapest, New York and Venice. The monumental Registan Square, the main Samarkand landmark and historical center is one of the most beautiful examples of Islamic architecture all over the world.
Samarkand is one of the world’s most ancient cities and Uzbek second largest one after Tashkent. Over two thousand years it is the key point on the Great Silk Road between China and Europe. In the year 2001, Samarkand was put in the UNESCO World Heritage List as the City – the Crossroad of Cultures. Today Samarkand is one of the most popular travel destinations in Uzbekistan.
