Tashkent Botanical Garden development by 2017The Government of Uzbekistan has approved a Concept on developing of Botanical Garden for 2014-2017 according to which big changes are expected. So, by 2017, the Botanical Garden will be transformed into a modern scientific, cultural and touristic spot.

Within the approved Concept, it is planned to reconstruct all water bodies and the greenhouse, develop the territory of the garden, build a visitor centre, cafes, green theatre, modernization of the scientific laboratories, arranging nursery of rare plants and other.

The project will be financed due to state budget, off-budget resources of Science Academy, charity funds, as well as Botanical garden resources.

Botanical garden of the Institute of plant and animal gene pool of the Academy of Sciences was founded in 1920. Its territory is 66 hectares. Arboretum of the garden includes flora expositions from East Asia, North America, Central Asia, Far East, Europe, Crimea and Caucasus. There are currently more than 4500 kinds of plants, some of which have been recognized in the IUCN Red List.
