Head of the Russian Imperial House of Romanov, Grand Duchess of Russia Maria Vladimirovna Romanova, will pay her first visit to Uzbekistan on 3-15 November 2014, reports ‘RIA Novosti’ with reference to the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Uzbekistan.

The visit is directed at familiarizing with history, national culture and modern life of Uzbekistan.
The interest shown by the representatives of the imperial dynasty towards Uzbekistan is obvious. The Romanovs dynasty played a significant role in the history of Uzbekistan in the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.

In 1881-1917, the cousin of the Russian Tsar Nikolai II, Nikolai Constantinovich Romanov (1850-1917) was residing in Tashkent. He influenced much on development of Tashkent, built palaces and channels, developed industry, culture and architecture. Being a collector, he managed to gather a collection of rare pieces of art that he had bequeathed after the death of his mother to the Tashkent Museum of Arts.

The former residence of the Grand Duke – The House of Romanov is still adorning the central part of Tashkent, the one built according to the project of prominent architects V.S. Getselman and A.L.Benua. The building is an architectural momument and today the Palace is used for the receptions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Uzbekistan.

Maria Vladimirovna Romanova was born on 23 December, 1953. The Grand Duchess is the only child from the marriage of Vladimir Killiovich Romanov, the Head of the Russian Imperial House in exile (the son of the Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich, a cousin of Nikolai II) and the Princess Leonida Georgievna Bagration of Mukhrani. In 1992 she was recognized by most of the Russian monarchists and the Russian Orthodox Church as the Head of the Russian Imperial House. Maria Vladimirovna is currently residing in Spain.

Last year summer there was another representative of the Romanovs, Grand Duchess Olga Kulikovskaya-Romanova who paid a visit to Tashkent. Grand Duchess Olga is the spouse of Tihon Nikolaevich Kulikovskiy-Romanov who is the nephew to the Tsar Nikolai II. Her visit was on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.

The event organizers are the Rossotrudnichestvo in cooperation with the Tashkent and Uzbekistan eparchy of Russian Orthodox Church and the Republican Russian Cultural Centre.
