Samarkand, a beautiful pearl of Uzbekistan, opens its doors again and appears throughout its splendor to unify the nations over the world in the Sharq Taronalari (The Melodies of the East) musical festival.
Music as nothing else can join people from different continents so that they open their hearts for the globe positive unification into a single whole.
Give yourselves a wonderful holiday evening that will be held from the 25th till the 30th of August of the year 2009 and everyone will have a chance to see the grandiose decorations of the famous Registan square.
Dip into the atmosphere of the magic fascinating sounds of the East! This festival originates in 1997 and takes place once every two years under the direction of the UNESCO. A delegation numbering up to 6 persons from each country can participate in the contest. The competent international jury will evaluate the skills, the richness of content, the national character, the artistry and the costumes of the participants and present the awards.
During these bright evenings you will have the unique chance to enjoy traditional music and creative musical works of various nations.

- 08.20.09 – Dress rehearsal (free entrance)
- 08.25.09 – Grand opening of the Festival (officials only)
- 08.26.09-08.30.09 – Contest (free entrance, the beginning at 19.00)
