Tour itinerary:
Tbilisi – Vardisubani – Telavi – Shumi Winery – Alaverdi – Tbilisi
At 09:00, depart towards the Kakheti region of Georgia, the cradle of Georgian wine. Beautiful road to Kakheti lies through Gombori pass (2 h, 100 km). We will visit a family in Vardisubani village which make qvevri, Georgian clay vessels for keeping wine at. Continue to Telavi, the administrative and historic center of the region. Have a short walk through charming streets of old Telavi and a photo stop at the monument to Erekle II. Drive to Shumi winery. You will explore local wine museum, production facilities, and have traditional lunch accompanied with premium Shumi wines. Final stop for today is Alaverdi Cathedral, one of the tallest ones in Georgia. Standing amid vines and Caucasian mountain on its back, this architectural masterpiece features unique frescoes dating back to 11-17 centuries. Return to Tbilisi. Drop off at your hotel.
