This 3 day Mestia tour itinerary is designed to make possible a trip to one of the most remotely located and unique regions of Georgia. Spend almost 3 full days in Mestia surrounded by Middle Ages watchtowers and take a memory of visiting Ushguli, claimed to be the highest located village in Europe.

Tour itinerary:

This tour can be started in one of the following days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday.

Day 1: Tbilisi – Mestia
Our driver will pick you up in the morning from your hotel in Tbilisi and transfer to Natakhtari airport (located 35 km away from Tbilisi). Take a local short-distance flight to Mestia, the central town of Svaneti. The flight is operated on 17-seater jet, LET L-410 Turbolet plane. Flight duration is 1 hour. Arrival in Mestia, transfer to the hotel. This region is a birthplace of the svans, a unique ethnic group, who distinguish with their amazing and old culture and traditions. Svaneti is also famous with its original and authentic architecture and is dubbed as a “land of thousand towers”. Those towers used to play an important economic and defensive role in the history of Svaneti. There are still dozens of the towers – Middle Ages stone houses with fire watchtowers; and churches (10-14th cc). In the evening visit the Mestia Ethnographic Museum, with an  original Svan house “machubi”, and “koshki” tower. Dinner and overnight at the hotel or local guesthouse.
Day 2: Mestia – Ushguli – Mestia
After the hotel breakfast, drive to Ushguli village, the highest standing settlement in Europe (2200 m). The Ushguli architectural complex is a valuable architectural and historical monument, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List for its exclusiveness. There are about 70 families living in Ushguli (around 200 people). Spend time in Ushguli strolling through the old narrow streets. Visit Lamaria Church, complex with impressive 12th century wall frescos. Locals believe that Queen Tamar was buried under this church. Enjoy picturesque view of the Mount Shkhara. Return to Mestia to enjoy delicious dinner made of Svan traditional dishes.
Day 3: Mestia – Tbilisi
After breakfast check-out from hotel. Free time to walk around Mestia until transfer to the local airport for afternoon flight back to Tbilisi. Arrival in Tbilisi, transfer to your hotel.
