Charms of Lake Baikal

Charms of Lake Baikal - Group tours 2013

Group size: 4-9 people
Duration: 6 days

Day 1: Listvyanka
Meet at the railway station accompanied by our English-speaking guide. On the way to Listvyanka visit an open-air wooden architecture museum “Taltsy”. In the museum you’ll see the settlements of indigenous Siberian people of 17th-20th centuries. Some of the buildings presented in the museum were brought there from the villages that were flooded after building a dam in Irkutsk. Transfer to the village situated only 60km away from Irkutsk - Listvyanka.

Check-in to the Krestovaya Pad hotel. Enjoy your visit to a local 19th century wooden St.Nicolas church and a local fish market where you’ll see a great variety of fish and different ways of cooking it. Free time. Overnight.

Day 2: Listvyanka (B)
Breakfast. Guided walk to a local biological museum that has a set of aquariums. In one of the aquariums there is the only mammal representative – the Baikal Seal. Visit a nearby view point, where you’ll get a chance to take beautiful panoramic pictures of Lake Baikal and the Angara River from above. Free time. Overnight.

Day 3: Listvyanka (B)
Free day to sleep in and be lazy or try some truly Siberian entertainment like dog-sledding and snowmobiling for extra cost. You’ll see many beautiful sculptures made of transparently clear ice of Lake Baikal. Overnight.

Day 4: Circum-Baikal Railway (BL)
Breakfast. Meet your guide to take a ferry across the lake to Port Baikal. Visit to a local museum and then get on the train to start your Circum-Baikal Railway journey. Lunch on the way served by a “Babushka” (old lady) who lives in a tiny station near the biggest 700-meter tunnel and serves delicious food and some home-made vodka called “Samogon”. Stop at Sludyanka station where you’ll see the only station building on the Trans-Siberian Railway that is made of plain marble. Arrive in Irkutsk at night. Transfer to the Victoria hotel. Overnight.

Day 5: Irkutsk (B)
Breakfast. Enjoy a 2-hour city tour. Starting the tour you’ll be taken to the Omen Monastery, the only monastery left in the city. On its territory you’ll discover the revered necropolis where some Decembrists are buried. Continuing the tour you’ll visit the most beautiful church of Irkutsk, the Kazan Cathedral. You’ll have a ride along the main street of Irkutsk, the Karl Marks Street, to get to the embankment. Right there, where the monument to Alexander III is, all young people gather, so you’ll have a chance to see “the youth culture” of Irkutsk. Transfer back to the hotel. Free time. Overnight.
