Enjoy romantic landscapes of the Aral Sea and visit the famous Savitsky Art Museum with a unique collection of pictures of Russian avant-gardists of the XX century during a 3-day tour to Karakalpakstan. The tour starts and ends in Kunya-Urgench.

Tour itinerary:

Day 1: Kunya-Urgench – Nukus
In the morning drive to Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan border point Kunya-Urgench – Xo‘jayli (20 km, 20 min). Go through border formalities on both checkpoints. Cross 1.5 km neutral zone (transportation may not be available). Meet your Uzbekistan guide and drive to Nukus (30 km, 20 min.) Check in hotel. In the afternoon visit the Karakalpakstan State Museum of Art named after I.V. Savitsky. The museum hosts the world's second largest collection of Russian avant-garde art and exposition of Karakalpak applied arts items. Have a short drive around center of Nukus: see statue of Karakalpak poet Berdakh, Nukus City Hall and Drama Theatre. Free time. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Nukus – Kungrad – Ustyurt Plateau – Sudochie Lake – Aral Sea
Start a full day trip to Aral Sea through Ustyurt Plateau. The distance till the water line of Aral Sea is 450 km and it takes approximately 8-9 hours to cover it. Pass via Kungrad district, which used to be one of the trading centers on the Silk Road. Stop at the Lake Sudochie, have lunch at fishermen’s house. Continue to the Aral Sea. On the way see a lighthouse, pass by the settlement of the gas plant. Stop to take pictures of beautiful canyons and the collapsed land. Arrive at the Aral Sea. Set up the tent. Dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 3: Aral Sea – Muynak – Nukus – Kunya-Urgench
Early wake up to take pictures of sun rise. After breakfast head back to Nukus. Drive on the dried bottom of the sea. Stop in Muynak to have a look at the former port with abandoned ships in the sand – “Cemetery of ships”. Lunch on the way to Nukus. Arrive in Nukus. Transfer to Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan border point Xo‘jayli – Kunya-Urgench. End of services.
