43 kvevris were found in AdjariaDuring the excavations of the medieval fortress of Khikhani in Adjaria, archeologists discovered a cellar with 43 kvevris, crocks for making and storing wine, - reports the Information Agency “Georgia Online”. Diggings were held for a week on the height of 635m above the sea level under the supervision of David Mindorashvili.

It is noted that the cellar with kvevri dates back to the 11-13th centuries. Besides, it is not considered to be a classic wine cellar, and that it was water, and not wine, stored in these kvevris. Discovered kvevris will be preserved.

Earlier another cellar with 28 kvevris was dug out in the Khikhani fortress; in addition, archeologists found small-caliber shells in one of the towers. At the present, there are reconstruction works held in the fortress apart from archeological findings.
