Manuscripts of Rustaveli listed in the UNESCO RegisterThe ancient manuscripts of the National Archives of Georgia were included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, - reports the Information agency Sputnik with the reference to the UN News Center. The manuscripts of the poem collections “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” by Shota Rustaveli and old manuscripts of the Byzantine period were included in the register.

The poem of Rustaveli “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” is one of the greatest world literature pieces. The well-known poem has been and still is one of the most frequently read pieces in Georgia; it has a constant influence on the development of Georgian literature.

“Memory of the World” is a documentary heritage (documented collective memory of the nations of the world) that represents a large part of the world cultural heritage. Currently “Memory of the World” register has 348 documents and documental collections in total from all five continents. Significant part of the “Memory of the World” register is kept in libraries, archives, museums and depositories of different countries and substantial part is under the threat of disappearance.
