6th Shashlik Festival in Akhtal

Armenian festivalOn 6 September 2014, there will be held a festival of shashlik, music and art in an old Armenian town of Akhtal of Lori province.

The annual 6th festival of cookery of delicious shashlik will gather more than twenty competing teams of cooks not only from Armenia but also from Russia and Georgia. Experienced chefs will offer the guests shashlik made of pork, veal, lamb, fish and birds marinated in mountain herbs and vine leaves cooked on hot coal of mangals. One may find various side dishes and sauces to different taste too. Vegetarians will also be offered vegetable and fruit shashlik and the well-known khorovats.

As reported by NEWS.am the jury of the festival will assess the works according to three nominations: ‘Best taste’, ‘Best design’ and ‘Best idea’. One of the teams will have a chance to receive Grand Prize of the festival.

The festival will take place in an old fortress church of Saint Mother of Jesus of 10th century with the magnificent landscape view of Lori Mountains. Folklore performances, concerts, traditional games show and fair-exhibition of craftsmen will be organized within the festival framework. The organizers say that this festival is a great opportunity to demonstrate local cultural traditions and attract tourists to the province.
