In 2009 Azerbaijan will remain a country with the most dynamic economy in CIS
Azerbaijan will remain the country with most dynamic economy in CIS, says the UN’s World Economic Situation and Prospects 2009 Report. The report also notes that the national economy will grow by 14%.
The world economy is expected to grow by 1 %. Meanwhile, the Russian economy will grow 4.8 per cent, which is only followed by Georgia where GDP is expected to grow 4.5%, Kazakhstan (4%) and Ukraine (2.1%).
AITF 2009
16-18 April Baku hosts the 8th Azerbaijan International Travel & Tourism Fair AITF 2009. Being the central event in the tourism industry of the country and most important in the Caucasus Region AITF becomes the main ground for the world travel industry players.
AITF 2008 presented companies from 28 countries of the world thus attracted attention of local businessmen as well as many foreign partners to the Azerbaijani tourism market.
AITF is officially supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, The World Tourism Organization(UNWTO), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan, International non-commercial Partnership – Association of Tourism Fair Organizers, Azerbaijan Export and Investment Foundation (AZPROMO)
Azerbaijan to Host Next Meeting of UNWTO
Azerbaijan is a full member of UNWTO since 2001. In spring 2009 Azerbaijan will organize and hold the 49th Meeting of UNWTO Commission for Europe on Tourism which is planning to be held in the frame of AITF2009.
Azerbaijan - New Experience in the World of Travel
Azerbaijan is the most developed country in the Caucasus Region. The country is rightfully recognized place of architectural and historic paradise! Thousands years of ethnic culture engraved in ancient fortresses and palaces, mystical towers and places of worship, fantastic caravanserais, mosques, eastern hammams(bath-house) and unique mausoleums. 65 of them are monuments of the universal heritage and protected by UNESCO. The Coast of the Caspian Sea is belted with the pearl leisure zones. Azerbaijan is truly called the Treasure of Nature as the 9 out of 11 climatic zones on our planet are in the country. Azerbaijan encounters 15 natural and historical preserves, 20 reservations and hunting camps, more than 250 lakes and over 1200 large and small rivers
Inbound tourism. The number of tourists coming to Azerbaijan is increasing from year to year. In 2007 the tourists’ inflow increased 11% which made 1.330mln. In 2008-2009 this number expecting a record-breaking growth up 20-35%
Outbound Tourism In 2007 number of Azerbaijani tourists traveling outside the country amounted to 1 450mln. In 2008 this figure will reach 18-21%.
The State Tourism Development Program in Azerbaijan for 2008-2017 has been ratified by the government. Implementation of the latter will increase the number of tourists coming to Azerbaijan up to 3 million per year
There has been 320 hotels for 30.706 rooms of deferent categories constructed during the last 4 years
There are over 300 tourist agencies and associations functioning in Azerbaijan
Tourism is one of the prior sectors of the economy. Starting from 2008 huge investment projects in the field of tourism are being implemented in the country
Economy
Azerbaijan holds significant position securing the energy supply in Europe. 47 thousand square kilometers of the total area of Azerbaijan(86,6 thous.sq.km) are oil and gas bearing territories. Specialists asserts there are underground pools with over 3(three) billions tons of oil in the territory of the country.
The total volume of revenue from oil industry is expected to be more than 400 billion US dollars during the next years.
Experts indicate Azerbaijan will product 50bln m3 of natural gas by 2020.
Azerbaijan holds first place according to the industrial growth among CIS countries which reached 36.1%.
