Economic Figures
In first quarter 2007 the growth of GDP made up 46.7%. In January-May 2007 GDP came to $10.23 billions. According to forecasts of the International Monetary Fond, the real GDP growth in Azerbaijan will reach 23.2% in 2008.
From the other side economy has maintained the high level investing. Total volume of foreign investments into the economy of Azerbaijan in 2000-2007 amounted to more than $28 billion. The Ministry of Economic Development of the country predicts, that in 2007-2010 the volume of investments into the economy of Azerbaijan from all sources will total to $38 billion. Within the next 20 years the total volume of revenue from oil industry of Azerbaijan is expected more than $200 billion.
Construction Projects
The main growth-stimulating factor is the increasing demand on financing of industry utilities building. $1,822 mln. were allocated in construction field from the state budget in 2007. Repair works shared 12.4% of total investments and made up $1,286 mln. $2,141.5 mln. were invested to construction of industry utilities, $531.5 mln. were spent for non-production utilities building.
In January-September 2007 totally 1 946 permissions were granted to conduct construction works. Among them there are 987 houses that makes 585.7 thousands square meters.
The construction of new international seaport in Baku was assigned by the President of the republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the project on “Improvement of Baku city transport system in 2008-2010” 11 highway bridges, 10 pedestrian passes and 13 multilevel car parkings are planned to be built in Baku. In the frame of the project 5 bridges and 5 pedestrian underpasses have already cut in to operation in Baku in 2007. $207.6 mln. have been spent for improvement of Baku city transport system.
In January-September 2007 $388 mln. of investments were allocated to develop the transport system of Azerbaijan, to scale motorways to the international standards. Within the frame of Multitranche Financing Facility (MFF) it’s planned to credit an amount of $500 mln. in 3 road construction projects till 2014.
In according with the partnership strategy between World Bank and the Government of Azerbaijan in 2007-2010, WB plans to go the expenses of $220 mln. to improve the water supply and sewerage systems in 2007. In 2009 – 2010 extra $200 mln. will be allocated in development of the national water supply and sewerage systems. The construction works of Oguz-Gabala-Baku water supply system, conducted since 2006, are planned to be accomplished in 2008. Total cost of this project is estimated in $564.7 mln. Construction works share $142.1 mln.
