Why Azerbaijan?
- Azerbaijan is situated on the crossroad of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridors such as the “Great Silk Route” and “North-South”; borders on Iran in the South, on Turkey in the South-West, on Georgia in the West, on Russia in the North and is washed by the Caspian Sea in the East
- In the frame of TRACECA projects in Azerbaijan Republic all transit cargo transportation were released from taxes to added coast, there is sustained reduced tariff for railway transportation in the territory of Azerbaijan Republic, anticipating their reduce for 50%. Port expenses in Baku International Sea Trade Port are lower for 3-4 times than in other Ports of Caspian and Black Seas
- Within the next 20 years the total volume of earnings from oil sale into the economics of Azerbaijan is expected to be more than $200 milliards
- According to data of Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan UDM in Azerbaijan made 26,4% in 2005, 34,5% in 2006 and 39,7% in the first quarter of 2007 in comparison with the data of the period of 2006
- In February 2007 in Tbilisi the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev, the president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili and the prime-minister of Turkey Redjeb Taip Erdogan signed an agreement on the project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars. This railway means the way out of China, Mongolia and other Asian countries through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to the Europe and back. Kazakhstan also considers the possibility of joining to the project of new railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars
- The specialists of Azerbaijan State Railways work out the Programme of the Development of Railway Infrastructure of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2007-2011 years. The programme provides the purchasing of new locomotives, cars, increase of the volume of cargo transportation etc. By the calculation of Azerbaijan State Railways, carried out with the World Bank, there are expected the investments $ 609 million for the realization of this programme
- There is realized Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Project of creation of the Corn (seed) terminal in Baku, turnover of which is calculated for 500 thousand tonne of seed, which allows to use it not only for the delivery of Kazakhstan seed to Azerbaijan, but also for organization of transit delivery. The development of non-oil sector in Azerbaijan and the growth of export potential, in such spheres as metallurgy, textile, aluminum industry and agro- industrial complex, contribute the extension of volume of annual cargo transportations, that makes this region attractive for most transport-forwarding companies
