Kazakhstan – Construction Industry Development Dynamics

Over January-April 2008, there were 6,184 construction companies operating in the Republic of Kazakhstan, including 891 in Astana. Over the same period, KZT 53,609.8 million were allocated for housing construction which has increased 2.9 times as compared to an analogous period last year.

Over the reporting period, enterprises, organisations and population of Astana have constructed and commissioned housing with a total area of 362,482 square metres (including 276,000 square metres of usable floor area), which is 2.3 times as much as the 2007 January-February level. The main volume of housing has been constructed by privately owned enterprises and organisations and population. The population has commissioned 21,341 square metres of total housing area, which by 72% exceeds the level of a corresponding period in 2007.

The following funds have been allocated to implement the Government Housing Construction Programme 2008: KZT 7.3 billion for rented housing, KZT 16.2 billion for credited housing, and KZT 35 billion for engineering networks.

In January-April 2008, 1,897,500 square metres of total housing area were commissioned in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The greater portion of housing was commissioned in Astana (26.0%) and Almaty (13.9%). Also considerable is the share of Almaty Oblast (10.8%), South Kazakhstan Oblast (7.5%), Atyrau Oblast (7.4%), Karaganda Oblast (6.8%), and Mangystau Oblast (6.5%).

According to the Government Programme Project, 8.3 million square metres of total housing area are expected to be commissioned in 2008, 8.9 million in 2009, and 9.7 million in 2010.
