From 12 June to 28 June 2015 Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, will host the First European Olympics, organized by International Olympic Organization, including, as of today, 49 national European Olympic committees. This decision was made on 8 December 2012 at the 41-th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee held in Roma, in the Italian National Olympic Committee head-quarter at “Foro Italico” stadium.
Ad-hoc organizing committee for the European Games 2015 established on 17 January 2013 appointed Mekhriban Alieva, who had already an experience in holding world-level events such as song contest “Eurovision-2012” also hosted by Baku, as Chairperson. The Organizing committee included Azerbaijani politicians, largest national companies CEO and Olympic champions.
Sportsmen from 49 European countries will take part in the First European Olympics. The program is known to include 15 summer Olympic sports (namely: wrestling, volley-ball, hand-ball, judo, taekwondo, badminton, box, shooting, archery etc). Two non-Olympic sports will also be included, purportedly by karate and dance sport.
