Population of Altai

Legendary artist Nikolay Roerich who has visited these places, studying Buddhism roots, and has made them famous all over the world, called Altai a huge copper in which throughout millenniums ancient ethnos and cultures have replaced each other. Indeed, this region became the centre of Great migration of people, which begun in I century of our era. From here ancestors of the Asian people – Oghuz, Uigurs, Kipchaks etc, begun their aggressive procession to Europe, Central and East Asia. Modern Altaians – representatives of Mongoloids –were generated on the basis of these ancient Turkic tribes too.
