Bazar-Dara, Pamir Mountans

On the riverbank of Ak-Dzhilga, in the valley of Murghab, there used to stand a city of medieval miners named Bazar-Dara. You can only reach this high-mountain place (at the height of nearby 4,000 m) either on foot or by the helicopter.
In the 10ht century Pamir was the center of silver mining. So it was inhabited by miners and metallurgists who lived in Chartym, Varshez, Shazud, Miyonakukh, Kugantukoi, Bazar-Dara and other settlements.
Bazar-Dara is one of most well preserved ones. There the caravanserai, the dwelling houses with sufas and hearths (80 in all), and the cemetery were found. About 1,200 - 1,500 people lived in the settlement.
The survived public structures consist of the administrative complex, the temple of fire, and the bath. All buildings had no foundation. Only the biggest stones were used for the construction. The miners used water from small wells or skillfully designed water basins.
