Restoration of the Ak-Saray palace square has completed

Restoration of palace square in Shakhrisabz has completedShakhrisabz, Amir Timur’s native town, will host a ceremonial opening of the restored Ak-Saray palace square on 1 May 2014, - reports news agency 12news.uz. The ceremony will be attended by French ambassador in Uzbekistan Jacques-Henri Els and delegation members of the General Council of Dordogne department.

The experts from France led by archaeologist Celine Ollane restored about 200 m2 ceramic tiles of the Timurid epoch. The restored tiles are protected from damages with a special construction, which at the same time, makes them accessible for the visitors. The restoration project, implemented with the support of the UNESCO Representative Office in Tashkent was a part of the Shakhrisabz building and reconstruction complex program, adopted this year. The project was financed by General Council of Dordogne department and French Embassy in Uzbekistan.

The Ak-Saray Palace along with other Shakhrisabz sites of the Timurid epoch was included into the UNESCO List of Cultural Heritage.
