Azerbaijani copper craftsmanship included in UNESCO List

Azerbaijani copper craftsmanship of the mountain village Lahij was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, - informs the new agency Trend. The decision was taken at the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Namibia.

The village of Lahij has a status of historical-cultural reserve, with the local population still residing on its territory that mainly deals with crafts including production of exquisite copper items (pots, trays, jugs and etc), leather, carpet-weaving and agriculture. Goods from Lahij have always been famous with its quality and beauty in the Near East.

Apart from the copper artisanship of Lahij, UNESCO’s Heritage list includes mugham, ashig art, Novruz holiday, carpets, art of performance on the instrument “tar”, Azerbaijani Kalagayi and game chovkan from this country.
