The One-day Tour to Terracotta Army and Huaqing Palace from Xi'an is an excellent introduction to the history and culture of one of China's most storied regions. First on the itinerary is the world-famous Terracotta Army – one of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Thousands of life-sized clay warriors, built to guard the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, speak directly to the scale and ambition of China's imperial age.
Huaqing Palace offers a different kind of history. Nestled at the foot of Mount Li in Lintong, this royal hot spring resort has been in use for almost 3,000 years and became one of the most celebrated imperial retreats in Chinese history – most famously as the refuge of Emperor Xuanzong and his consort Yang Guifei. The gardens are beautiful, the ancient baths still evocative, and the stories attached to the place hard to forget.
The One-day Tour to Terracotta Army and Huaqing Palace from Xi'an is for travellers who want to cover two of Xi'an's most important landmarks in a single day, efficiently and without feeling rushed.
