Ashgabat hits Guinness Book of Records for the fifth time

This time, Ashgabat was included in the list of Guinness Books of Records for the highest density of white marble buildings, - reports RIA Novosti. The Turkmen capital has over 540 buildings encased in white marble on the area of 22 km2. The total area ofmarbled buildings in the city is 4,514,000 km2 (more than 4, 5 m2).

At a ceremonial conference on this occasion, the chief editor Craig Glendale awarded the Ashgabat Mayor Redzhepgeldy Nurmammedov a certificate. Glendale also announced that the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov is awarded the honorary title “Merited Architect of Turkmenistan”.

Earlier, Ashgabat was mentioned in Guinness Book of Records for four times. The city was included into its pages for the highest flagpole (133m), the largest fountain complex, the largest gated observation wheel, and the largest architectural representation of a star (the Oguzkhan Star on TV Tower).
