Avazan Church, Kotayk

By 1240 the first cave church of the monastery, Avazan, was finished. It was cut on the place of the ancient cave with a spring. In the church hall near the northern wall there are two little pools with spring water. The people believe the water is holy and curative.

The wounds washed by it heal very quickly. The church premise is strict but beautifully decorated. The eastern wing of the church is occupied by the altar apsid with graceful arches. In the southern wing's wall three small carved niches are cut.
