Arichavank Monastery, Shirak

Monastic complex Arichavank was built during the 7 th - 13 th centuries. Its main feature is that it was built from huge stones of various colors. The stones laid in staggered order formed original ornament for the walls. Nevertheless, the monastery is very attractive by itself. Its cross-shaped facades are decorated by rich carved ornament characteristic to khachkars.

The main church of the complex has domed hall and was erected in 1201. The domed drum is decorated with carved columns. The monastery used to be the summer residence of Armenian Catholicoses for centuries.
