Archaeologists discovered an ancient pyramid in KazakhstanArchaeologists discovered an ancient construction that reminds of Egyptian pyramids in the Kazakh steppes not far from the city of Karaganda, reports the official website of the National Geographic Russia. The discovery belongs to the expedition of Saryarka Archaeology Institute under the supervision of Dr. Kukushkin. Supposed age of the pyramid is more than three thousand years. It resembles more the famous stepped pyramid of the Pharaoh Djoser, however it appeared almost a millennium later than the Egyptian one.

After studying the finding, scientists discovered that the construction is a mausoleum erected for some chief or kagan of the mighty tribe of the latest period of the Bronze Age. The chief himself was buried on the top of the pyramid and all his family members – in the lower steps. Today the expedition is investigating the burial site and studying the objects. All findings and materials will later be exhibited in the Archeology Museum of Karaganda University.

Excavations in these premises have been held since the middle of the last century and many interesting findings have been made: mortal remains and valuable artifacts of the 14-12th centuries B.C. These are bronze needles, arrowhead, ceramics, knife-dagger and many others.
