Famous archaeologist Victor Sarianidi has passed away

The outstanding Russian archaeologist Victor Sarianidi, aged 84, native of Tashkent died overnight into 23 December, — RIA Novosti news agency reported on its website. According to his colleagues-professionals, the Sarianidi’s archaeological discoveries range among the findings of the treasures of King Priam of Troy, and the treasures of Tutankhamun.

Viktor Ivanovich, born in 1929 in Tashkent, became famous for his work in Bactria and Margilan. He found the temple city of Gonur in the territory of modern Turkmenistan and seven royal tombs in northern Afghanistan with 20,000 gold objects — the so-called “Bactrian gold”. Later, these excavations resulted in the discovery of a previously unknown civilization — the Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex (BMAC), which is none other, but a center of ancient culture of the Bronze Age.

Sarianidi was a legend of world archeology, the author of over 30 books and 300 scientific publications, an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, a foreign member of the National Academy of deiLinchei (Italy), a member of the Anthropological Society of Greece.
