According to the Press Service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan, the reconstruction of the highway connecting Shymkent and Tashkent will be completed by 2015.
The Shymkent-Tashkent route is currently divided into three sections with total length of 99 km. Todini-Imperdzhilio Accord was chosen as a contractor for construction of a 37 km road section. Who will be chosen as contractors of the two remaining sites is not decided yet; the competitive selection is still underway.
Upon reconstruction, the four-lane road with cement concrete pavement will be promoted to the first technical category. In addition, the construction of a road junction and several overhead roads is also planned.
Reconstruction of the Tashkent-Shymkent road of the total length of 2,787 km running through the Kazakh territory is part of the Western Europe-Western China International Transit Corridor Project. The construction of the corridor, aimed to improve transport links between Europe and Asia, as well as facilitate the import of goods from China, will be completed in 2019.
