Train to connect Almaty and Kapchagay Reservoir

Kapchagay reservoirNew railway route launched from Almaty to Kapchagay reservoir, a popular resort area of Almaty residents and the guests of the southern capital, reports the Kazinform.

The route was introduced with the support of the Almaty Akimat (Mayor’s Office). The train will run the entire summer, and in case of high demand will route all year round. Trains will operate twice a day: mornings and evenings. Morning trips from Kapchagay will start at 06.36 and the return trip from Almaty station -1 at 08.44, the evening train from Kapchagay departs at 17.55, and from Almaty at 20.17. Duration of the trip is 1,5 hrs. Ticket price is 600 KZT (1.77 USD). Trains will stop at following stations: Zheti-Su, Zhetygen, Medeu, Iliyskaya and Kayrat. It is reported that later the departure station will be transferred to Almaty-2 located closer to the city center and metro station.

Kapchagay is a city in the north of Almaty region, 56 km away from the southern capital. Kapchagay, 80km in length and 40km in width, is one of the largest reservoirs in Kazakhstan.
